ISO/TS 15066 - Cobots operate safely with Humans

Technical Specification on Collaborative Robot Design

Odense, Denmark, February 15, 2016

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the ISO/TS 15066 as a supplementary document to support the ISO 10218 ‘Safety Requirements for Industrial Robots’ standard.

Lasse Kieffer, an active expert in the ISO committee and Universal Robots’ Global Compliance Officer, was involved in the development of the ISO/TS 15066 in order to guide the implementation of cobots operating safely with humans.

The document describes the different collaborative concepts and details the necessary requirements which need to be implemented in order to be in accordance with the regulation. Furthermore, it also gives more details with regards to design and risk assessment requirements.  A research study on pain thresholds vs. robot speed, pressure and impact for specific body parts is also included.
