For several decades it has been possible to generate plasma, but this was only possible under low-pressure (in vacuum, at 10-3 – 10-9 bar), and in a vacuum chamber.  Whilst this is very effective, the process is performed in batches and thus is a discontinuous process.

 

On the other hand,  the Openair®  process takes place at ambient atmospheric pressure.  This means that costly low pressure chambers are not required, and that Openair®  plasma treatment technology can be cost-effectively integrated directly into the manufacturing line, either statically or via robots .  

 

Like no other form of energy, plasma energy has the following benefits :

 

  • cleaning (removing of all clinging organic matter & particles) and
  • activating the surface in such a way that the surface tension is increased, typically  >70mN/m , thus improving all forms of bonding, deposition

 

This process can be used to effectively treat any material / surface which comes in contact with plasma, be it metal, plastic, rubber, composites, carton paper, glass, etc..
